Back to School!

Children are back at school and parents are back at work. As the routine starts again for many families, one of the things on the everyday to-do list is packed lunches. These days, busy families struggle to find ways to send their children to school with healthy food in their lunch boxes, and we all know that the daily grind of filling lunchboxes doesn't make it easy to come up with imaginative alternatives!

According to the NHS, a well-balanced packed lunch should contain these five main food categories, which are: starchy foods or carbohydrates, such as bread and cereal, protein, dairy, vegetables or salad, and a portion of fruit. In fact, starchy foods are the main source of energy, and should make up a third of the lunchbox.

Eating less salt and reducing sugar levels are some of the NHS’s recommendations towards a healthier diet.

Applying these recommendations to children’s packed lunches, ITS has developed its own solutions to reduce sugar and salt in breads, cereals and biscuits. Firstly, regarding cereal bars, ITS’s sugar reduction solutions allow for healthier flapjacks and cereal bars.

Furthermore, aiming to meet the market needs and the consumer’s expectations, ITS has developed a broad range of natural flavoured oats and dried fruits such as sultanas, raisins and cranberries, which are perfect snacks.

The broad range of seasonings, including Mediterranean, African, American and traditional English seasonings can be applied into other healthy snacks, such as baked crisps. ITS may also be able to custom-develop unique flavours to suit customers requirements.
